State Dept program helped US and Pakistani universities build a new curriculum to strengthen chemical security and STEM education in Pakistan.

A new curriculum co-developed by experts from Sandia National Labs and faculty at the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore and Punjab University seeks to strengthen chemical security while boosting practical STEM training for Pakistani students.

Facilitated through the State Department Chemical Security Program, the collaboration brings U.S. technical expertise together with Pakistani academia to equip future STEM leaders with tools to address challenges safely, responsibly and with innovation.

Officials describe the initiative as the beginning of deeper cooperation between Pakistani universities, industry and government with U.S. partners, aimed at strengthening chemical security and unlocking opportunities for education, research and economic growth across Pakistan.

“This is about more than a syllabus—it’s about fostering innovation, empowering Pakistan’s next generation of scientists, and strengthening U.S.-Pakistan educational partnerships” – Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker

Local faculty and students at UET Lahore and Punjab University will play a central role in implementing the curriculum, positioning Pakistan to develop stronger laboratory practices, risk awareness and a skilled STEM workforce rooted in chemical security principles.
