Pakistan and the UN deepen climate cooperation with plans to scale joint programmes for resilience and support to communities most affected by climate change.

In Islamabad on September 23, 2025, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik met with United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator Mohamed Yahya to discuss expanded collaboration on climate issues.

Mr. Yahya noted that 24 UN agencies are active in Pakistan, working closely with federal and provincial partners to bolster development and resilience. The presence of these agencies underpins a coordinated UN effort focused on climate change adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development that complements national priorities.

The two leaders reviewed a wide range of large-scale programmes being implemented by the UN, examining their scope, implementation strategies and measurable impact. Discussion centered on strengthening climate cooperation to ensure programmes better align with local needs, accelerate implementation, and deliver tangible results for communities facing recurrent climate shocks.

Mr. Yahya reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to continue supporting Pakistan’s climate agenda and to deepen partnerships that enhance resilience and environmental sustainability. He emphasised a sustained focus on coordination, resource mobilisation and technical support to scale proven interventions.

Dr. Musadik Malik welcomed the sustained UN partnership and stressed the Government’s determination to reinforce collaborative frameworks. Both sides agreed to pursue closer coordination to translate climate cooperation into on-the-ground benefits for the most vulnerable populations, enhancing Pakistan’s preparedness and long-term sustainability.
