A delegation led by Novo Nordisk Pakistan travelled to Copenhagen to observe Denmark’s advanced healthcare ecosystem and to exchange practical strategies for preventing and managing diabetes and obesity. The visit brought together representatives from government bodies, healthcare associations and policy forums to explore early intervention models and patient-centred approaches that could be adapted to Pakistan’s health system.
Delegates saw first-hand innovations in care pathways, prevention programmes and integrated services that prioritise early detection and long-term support. With nearly 34.5 million people living with diabetes and around 38 million affected by obesity in Pakistan, the delegation focused on translating lessons into locally appropriate actions to improve outcomes and reduce strain on healthcare services.
Rashid Rafique Butt, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Pakistan, emphasised the need for urgent, coordinated responses: “Diabetes and obesity are among the fastest-growing health challenges in the country, and healthcare professionals are central to addressing them. Through this collaboration, we aimed to empower healthcare professionals with insights and tools to elevate standards of care, secure long-term health, and create healthier communities.”
Participants engaged in dialogue on practical pathways to localise these learnings, including workforce training, prevention campaigns and policy measures to support better patient journeys. The programme highlighted how early interventions and systematic follow-up can strengthen primary care and improve long-term outcomes for people living with chronic conditions.
Peter Emil Nielsen, Denmark’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, said the exchange deepened bilateral cooperation: “By creating platforms for dialogue and learning, this collaboration deepens the healthcare partnership between Denmark and Pakistan. By sharing best practices and innovations, we are equipping healthcare professionals and policy leaders to play a stronger role in combating chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity.”
Novo Nordisk Pakistan underlined its commitment to supporting sustainable progress in the country through innovation, collaboration and capacity building. As a global healthcare company with roots in Denmark, Novo Nordisk continues to work alongside local partners to expand access to care and promote prevention strategies that respond to Pakistan’s specific healthcare needs.
