Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan addressed the 8th Pakistan Pharma Summit at Serena Hotel, underscoring that industrial policy and regulatory reforms are central to Pakistan’s economic future and the wellbeing of its 250 million citizens. He highlighted the strategic role of the pharmaceutical sector as a driver of public health and economic growth, noting recent gains in pharma exports.
At the Pharma Export Awards ceremony the top 50 exporters were recognised for their contributions to international trade and reputation building. The sector’s exports have reached USD 457 million, the highest in two decades, reflecting a record 34% growth that Mr Khan said positions Pakistan to vie for greater global healthcare market share. He described the exporters as ambassadors who promote Pakistan’s name abroad.
“The government stands firmly with the pharmaceutical industry,” Mr Khan said, affirming policies aimed at strengthening manufacturing capacity while ensuring affordable, quality medicines for the public. He pledged continued support for regulatory reforms and industry-friendly measures to sustain momentum in pharma exports and domestic supply.
Mr Khan welcomed participation by international experts at the Summit, saying such engagement will deepen partnerships and help local companies adopt global best practices and standards to enhance competitiveness. He congratulated the award winners and emphasised that a combined focus on policy, standards and exports can secure a more prominent place for Pakistan in the global healthcare market.
