EU-funded Child Rights Hub launched in Karachi to tackle child labour in Pakistan's leather and textile supply chains; suppliers and brands urged to join.

On 25 September in Karachi the European Union-funded Child Rights Hub Pakistan was officially launched in partnership with The Centre for Child Rights and Business, marking a key step for protecting children in the country’s leather and textile sectors.

The new Child Rights Hub aims to identify, prevent and remediate child labour at scale, including in lower and informal tiers of supply chains where risks are often hidden. The initiative will support capacity building for suppliers and other actors to strengthen Human Rights Due Diligence, improve risk management and expand support services for young workers.

Organisers say a second Action Hub will open in Multan this October to broaden the programme’s reach across major manufacturing centres. The Multan expansion is designed to enhance local engagement and tackle child labour challenges throughout the supply chain network that serves Pakistan’s export markets.

Brands, buying houses, retailers and businesses in the textile and leather industries are being invited to join the Child Rights Hub’s collaborative efforts. Stakeholders are encouraged to work with the Hub to implement stronger safeguards and remediation mechanisms so that industry practices evolve in ways that make a measurable difference for children.
