RMNCAH meeting in Islamabad reviewed maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health progress and plans to strengthen midwifery and the health workforce.

The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (MoNHSR&C) and UNFPA Pakistan convened the quarterly RMNCAH meeting in Islamabad to assess progress on programmes for mothers, newborns, children and adolescents. The technical working group gathered health officials, partner agencies and experts to discuss implementation status and remaining gaps across RMNCAH priorities.

Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal chaired the session and emphasised that providing quality health services to women, children and young people is a top priority for the government. He underlined the importance of collaborating with international partners to strengthen service delivery and accelerate results across maternal and child health interventions.

Participants reviewed recent achievements and identified measures to bolster midwifery services, with particular focus on workforce development, training and retention. Technical updates from partner organisations informed discussion on how to align resources and scale effective practices to improve outcomes for mothers and newborns across Pakistan.

The meeting also generated technical recommendations and set future priorities to ensure sustained progress in RMNCAH. Stakeholders agreed on coordinated follow-up actions to operationalise the agreed measures and strengthen monitoring so that midwifery and broader health workforce improvements translate into better care at facility and community levels.
