Ayaz Sadiq urges stronger humanitarian laws at IPU 151 in Geneva, backs Gaza ceasefire and warns on IIIOJK and Indus Waters Treaty to protect regional stability.

At the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union assembly in Geneva on 21 October 2025, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq urged the international community to strengthen international humanitarian law and guarantee protection for civilians in conflict zones.

He warned that violations of national sovereignty undermine the foundations of international order and justice and described the suffering of Palestinian civilians over the past two years as a trial of conscience for humanity. Ayaz Sadiq welcomed the Gaza ceasefire initiative as a constructive step toward lasting peace and reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian right to self-determination.

Addressing regional concerns, Ayaz Sadiq condemned human rights violations and demographic policies in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling those measures serious breaches of international law. He said Pakistan had responded to unprovoked aggression with restraint while reserving the right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He cautioned that India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty poses a significant threat to regional stability and urged immediate diplomatic engagement to resolve water security challenges.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq also raised alarm over the reported use of Afghan territory by the Indian-backed group Fitna al-Khawarij to carry out anti-Pakistan activities, stressing that Pakistan’s counter-terrorism operations remain focused on safeguarding civilians and protecting national borders.

Describing climate change as an emerging humanitarian crisis, he noted that Pakistan, despite its minimal contribution to global emissions, is among the countries hardest hit by devastating natural calamities. Ayaz Sadiq called on the international community to respond with fairness, solidarity and equitable financial support for vulnerable nations.

Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation, he presented the proposed UN Security Council Resolution 2788 as a demonstration of Pakistan’s dedication to promoting international peace and stability, and reaffirmed that diplomacy, dialogue and parliamentary engagement are essential tools for global harmony.

The Pakistani parliamentary delegation accompanying Ayaz Sadiq in Geneva includes Federal Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik and MNAs Choudhry Shahbaz Babar, Dr Sharmila Sahiba Faruqui Hashaam, Muneeba Iqbal and Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani.
