HSA and Shaukat Khanum joined for a Breast Cancer Awareness session in Islamabad highlighting early detection, community education, and preventive care.

The Health Services Academy, in collaboration with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, hosted an informative Breast Cancer Awareness session in Islamabad attended by students, faculty and healthcare professionals. The event focused on practical steps to promote early detection and strengthen community education across the capital.

Ms. Savera Malik, Student Ambassador of Shaukat Khanum, moderated the session and introduced a detailed presentation by Dr. Mahnoor Nadeem from SKMCH&RC on ‘Breast Cancer Awareness and Early Detection’. Dr. Nadeem emphasized screening protocols, recognizing warning signs, and the lifesaving role of early detection in improving patient outcomes.

Ms. Nosheen Nazir, Assistant Professor at HSA, discussed ‘The Role of Midwives in Preventing Breast Cancer’, underscoring how midwives and nursing staff can expand outreach, deliver community education, and support women in both urban and rural settings to access screening and follow-up care.

Prof. Dr. Babar Tasneem Sheikh, Dean of Public Health and Director ORIC, and Sr. Zamin Abbas Syed, Principal Nursing & Midwifery, commended the campus initiative and highlighted the importance of sustained Breast Cancer Awareness efforts to reduce stigma and improve early diagnosis rates across Pakistan.

Mr. Atif Mehmood, Assistant Marketing Manager at Shaukat Khanum, reiterated the hospital’s commitment to providing free cancer care and outlined ongoing fundraising activities to support patients. The session concluded with a symbolic awareness walk that united faculty, students and guest speakers in a shared pledge to advocate for women’s health, promote early detection and deliver compassionate care.
