Archbishop Germano Penemote, the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Pakistan, met with Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar in Islamabad on 3rd November. Minister of State for Law & Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik was also present for the discussion.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar expressed the government’s deep appreciation for the longstanding contributions of the Christian community to Pakistan, emphasising their role in education, health and social welfare. He noted that missionary schools, colleges and hospitals have educated and uplifted generations of Pakistanis and remain central to national service.
The talks focused on a range of government initiatives designed to strengthen protection, inclusion and advancement of religious minorities. Measures discussed included enhanced security and restoration of places of worship, reinforced mechanisms to promote equality and safeguard minority rights, and targeted educational scholarships and financial assistance for underprivileged minority families. These steps reflect the Ministry’s wider Human Rights agenda for inclusive development.
Archbishop Germano Penemote conveyed appreciation for the government’s sustained efforts and acknowledged their positive impact on minority communities. He reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to promoting peace, social harmony and continued interfaith dialogue across Pakistan.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar reiterated Pakistan’s constitutional and international human rights commitments and underlined the Ministry’s resolve to build a society where every citizen, regardless of faith, enjoys equal rights, security and meaningful participation in national life. The meeting signalled a continued partnership between state institutions and faith communities to bolster protection and opportunity for minorities in Pakistan.
