KOICA launches Flood Awareness campaign in Multan to train 800 residents across 20 communities under a USD 10M climate adaptation project.

On October 24, 2025, the KOICA Pakistan Office launched the first Flood Awareness campaign in Multan as part of the project Establishment of Flood Disaster Prevention Master Plan & Construction of Stormwater Storage System in Multan city for Climate Change Adaptation in Punjab Province (2024–2027, USD 10M). The initiative is designed to raise community knowledge of flood risks and promote practical preparedness ahead of each monsoon season.

The campaign will run across the next nine months and aims to engage 800 residents from 20 flood-prone communities in Multan through training sessions, community dialogue and participatory activities. KOICA and the Project Management Consultant organized community-based training using self-produced educational materials, including brochures and video clips, to build local capacity through hands-on and sustainable learning.

Flood Awareness activities focus on early preparedness measures, household-level responses and how communities can coordinate with local agencies during flood events. Sessions delivered in neighborhood settings are intended to strengthen resilience and ensure that practical measures are understood and adopted by vulnerable households.

Ms Harim Go, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Pakistan Office, said the project was initiated to provide effective and lasting solutions to the recurring flood problems that affect Multan every monsoon. She described the campaign as the first concrete step toward embedding a culture of preparedness in the city and said KOICA will continue to expand efforts to create positive change in local communities.

Local partners also welcomed the launch. Mr Khalid Raza Khan, Managing Director of WASA Multan, and Mr Atta Ul Haq Khokhar, Additional Director General of the Multan Development Authority, expressed appreciation for KOICA’s support and reaffirmed their commitment to close collaboration for successful project implementation and to reduce flood damage in the city.

Building on this initial Flood Awareness campaign, the KOICA Pakistan Office will continue to strengthen community resilience across Multan and promote wider understanding of disaster preparedness, integrating lessons from training materials into longer-term flood prevention planning under the USD 10M climate adaptation project.
