SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan announces Marble Policy to boost exports, value addition and industrial growth with investor support and Italy collaboration.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan chaired a high-level meeting with the All Pakistan Marble Industry Association and the Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC) in Islamabad on November 6, 2025 to address persistent challenges in the sector.

Participants examined bottlenecks affecting marble exports, hurdles in value addition and potential measures for incentives and facilitation. Mr. Khan announced that the marble sector will be recognised as an industry and said a National Marble Policy will soon be introduced to tackle these issues and promote sustainable industrial growth.

He underlined that Pakistan’s marble is of world-class quality and stressed the need to increase exports through greater value addition and stronger branding. The Marble Policy is expected to bring policy-level reforms that enhance competitiveness and productivity across the value chain.

Mr. Khan highlighted that stabilising the marble industry will generate new employment opportunities and attract investment, and pledged government support and facilitation for exporters and investors. He also emphasised training in modern skills and the provision of technical assistance to improve efficiency and global competitiveness.

The SAPM directed PASDEC and the Marble Association to prepare proposals for collaboration with Italy focused on technology transfer, capacity building and export enhancement. Officials said the planned Marble Policy will consider incentives and facilitation measures to support these initiatives and help the sector move up the value chain.

Officials and industry representatives expressed optimism that the new policy framework will unlock higher-value exports, encourage modern processing techniques and position Pakistan more strongly in international stone markets.
