Pakistan Iran ties bolstered as parliamentary delegations agree to boost trade, border markets and institutional cooperation for regional stability.

The Executive Committee of the Pakistan–Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by Convener Syed Naveed Qamar, hosted a delegation from the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran in Islamabad on 6 November 2025. The Iranian side was chaired by Fida Hussain Maliki and included members Mohammad Nour Dehghani, Rahmadel Bamiri, Mehrdad Goodarzvand Chegini and Fazlollah Ranjbar. Representatives from Pakistan’s Executive Committee present included Tahira Aurangzeb, Syed Ali Qasim Gillani, Pullain Baloch, Amjad Ali Khan and Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui.

During the meeting Convener Syed Naveed Qamar conveyed warm greetings on behalf of the National Assembly and reiterated the deep historical, cultural and religious links that underpin Pakistan Iran ties. He stressed that sustained parliamentary exchanges serve as a critical institutional channel to enhance dialogue, deepen people-to-people connections and expand cooperation across trade, energy, education and culture.

Mr. Qamar underlined Pakistan’s readiness to advance key bilateral initiatives, expand inter-governmental trade and ensure practical implementation of existing agreements, proposing regular reciprocal visits to maintain momentum. The focus on Pakistan Iran ties was framed around tangible projects and measures that can be taken immediately to benefit communities on both sides of the border.

Addressing the delegation, Mr. Fida Hussain Maliki thanked the Convener and members for their hospitality and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation. He urged expansion of barter trade mechanisms, the establishment of joint border markets and the development of industrial and trade zones to boost bilateral commerce. Improved connectivity, including enhanced air links and maritime routes, was offered as a practical pathway to raise trade volumes.

Mr. Maliki also highlighted the brotherly relations rooted in shared history and mutual respect, noting Pakistan’s principled stance and the resolutions adopted by both Houses during the recent twelve-day conflict involving Iran. He expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued and vocal support for the people of Gaza, and the delegation paid tribute to Allama Muhammad Iqbal for his enduring intellectual legacy in the Muslim world.

Both sides agreed on the need to develop a structured framework of cooperation to translate agreements into results. They identified consistent institutional dialogue, timely communication and closer coordination between the Secretariats of the two Friendship Groups as essential to delivering tangible outcomes and strengthening Pakistan Iran ties.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to regional peace, stability and prosperity and a joint emphasis on practical, results-oriented parliamentary cooperation to expand trade, economic and cultural linkages between Pakistan and Iran.
