Martyrs of Jammu Day observed as leaders renew the pledge to pursue Kashmir's right to self-determination and honour the 1947 victims.

Communities on both sides of the line of control and Kashmiris living across the world observed Martyrs of Jammu Day with a renewed pledge to continue the mission of the fallen until the Kashmiri people achieve their right to self-determination. The day was marked by tributes and calls to keep the martyrs’ cause alive at every cost.

Social leader Mohammad Aamir Sadiqi, president of a progressive welfare organisation, paid a moving tribute to those who lost their lives in Jammu in 1947, saying the sacred blood of the victims will not be shed in vain. He emphasised that the Martyrs of Jammu gave their lives for a noble purpose and their unparalleled sacrifices cannot be forgotten.

The remembrance recalled the killings in Jammu when forces of Maharaja Hari Singh, Indian soldiers and Hindutva groups targeted hundreds of thousands of Muslims as they migrated toward Pakistan in the first week of November 1947. Mr Sadiqi highlighted that it has been 2286 days of continued exploitation and military siege in Kashmir and said Indian forces are violating human rights in the territory.

According to Mr Sadiqi, the best way to honour the martyrs is to continue their mission until its goal is achieved. He urged the international community to act to stop atrocities against innocent Kashmiris and called on the Pakistani nation to sustain political, social and diplomatic support for Kashmir. He expressed the conviction that the sacrifices of Kashmiris will ultimately bear fruit and one day Kashmir will become part of Pakistan.
