Discover RWU's Islamic Calligraphy workshop where students practiced Thuluth script and gold leaf technique, blending art and spirituality.

The Department of Fine Arts at Rawalpindi Women University welcomed students and faculty to a pre-conference hands-on workshop focused on Islamic Calligraphy, offering an immersive study of traditional techniques and spiritual aesthetics.

The session was led by Mr. Wasli Shahid, a calligrapher recognised for his work nationally and internationally. Participants practised the Thuluth style, learned the Gold Leaf technique to enrich compositions, and engaged in reflection on the spiritual symbolism of the Alif, its expression of divine unity and its connection with Roza-e-Rasul (PBUH).

Combining practical skill-building with contemplative discussion, the workshop deepened appreciation for Islamic Calligraphy as a living part of Pakistan’s cultural heritage. Students and faculty said the hands-on format reaffirmed traditional craftsmanship and will inform upcoming conference presentations and future fine arts endeavours across the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region.
