COP30 in Belém aims to kickstart a decade of climate action, update NDCs and track COP29 finance pledges to keep warming near 1.5°C.

“This COP must ignite a decade of acceleration and delivery,” the UN Secretary-General told world leaders at the opening of the Belém Climate Summit on 6 November, setting a determined tone as delegations convene in Brazil.

Negotiators, scientists, civil society representatives and activists are gathering in Belém from 6-21 November to press for concrete steps to tackle the climate crisis. The conference will center on efforts required to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, alongside the presentation of new national action plans (NDCs) and a review of progress on the finance pledges agreed at COP29.

As COP30 unfolds, countries including Pakistani policymakers and civil society will be watching closely for clear signals on delivery and financing. The summit’s focus on NDC updates and tracking COP29 finance commitments underscores the practical measures that delegations must advance if the next decade is to deliver meaningful climate outcomes.
