Parliamentary briefing shapes Pakistan COP30 strategy, prioritising climate resilience, climate finance and stronger parliamentary oversight for a unified national stance.

A high-level parliamentary briefing held in Islamabad on November 7, 2025 focused on devising Pakistan’s approach to the forthcoming UN Climate Change Conference. Key parliamentarians and officials attended the meeting, including Ms Zeb Jaffar, Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Defence; Mr Pullain Baloch, Chairman Standing Committee on Information & Broadcasting; Dr Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, Minister of State for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination; Ms Shaista Pervaiz, Convenor of the National Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs; and Ms Farah Naz Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary for the National Heritage and Culture Division. Climate experts and international partners also contributed technical insights to inform policy options.

Barrister Danyal Chaudhry stressed that climate resilience and accessible climate finance must remain at the core of Pakistan’s COP30 strategy. He underlined the need to integrate climate action with economic stability and said the government is working to consolidate a unified national stance to safeguard Pakistan’s interests on the global stage. The briefing emphasized transparent and accountable management of climate funds.

Participants highlighted the importance of enhanced parliamentary oversight and recommended the establishment of specialized committees to monitor the implementation of climate initiatives and ensure effective use of resources. The meeting reflected a consensus that stronger oversight mechanisms will support credible commitments and delivery ahead of COP30.

Convened by the Parliamentary Forum on Energy and Economy in collaboration with relevant standing committees, the briefing served as a platform to align national climate policy with economic goals and to harness expert and parliamentary inputs into Pakistan’s COP30 strategy.
