TEVTA Punjab, working with key industry stakeholders, convened a consultative session to discuss the modernization of the Government Weaving & Finishing Institute in Shahdara and to align the Weaving Institute with national and international industrial standards.
The meeting was attended by Secretary SD&ED Mr. Nadir Chattha, Chairman TEVTA Brig. Muhammad Sajid Khokhar SI(M) Retd. and SDG Mr. Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, together with a strong representation from the textile industry. Participants reviewed current training capacities and highlighted gaps between existing curricula and modern factory requirements.
At the outset, SDG TEVTA delivered a detailed presentation on the current status of the institute and laid out a roadmap for future development of the Weaving Institute. The presentation examined infrastructure needs, curriculum updates and equipment modernization necessary to prepare trainees for evolving market demands.
Industry representatives offered several practical suggestions aimed at ensuring the institute meets present industrial needs and future market demands, emphasizing hands-on skills, updated machinery and linkages with manufacturers. It was agreed to form a working group that will compile and present detailed recommendations for the instituteโs upgrade and implementation.
The consultative session underlined TEVTAโs continued commitment to upgrading textile skills training in Pakistan and to strengthening the Weaving Institute as a hub for industry-relevant vocational education in the region.
