Police Drone pilot in Lahore launches test runs; drones auto-deploy on helpline 15 calls, reach incidents within 15km to record video evidence and aid response.

The Safe City Authority has begun test runs for a police drone pilot that will operate across Lahore, marking a new step in rapid incident response. The initial phase involves trial flights to fine tune automated dispatch and in-flight recording systems for real-time evidence collection.

Under the new system, drones will automatically launch when helpline 15 receives an emergency call and aim to arrive at scenes ahead of responding officers. The police drone units are equipped to record high-quality video evidence immediately on arrival, providing crucial footage for investigations and situational assessment.

These police drone test runs will be limited to a 15 kilometre operational radius during the pilot and are intended to assist in managing traffic blockages, protests or other urgent incidents. The automatic launch protocol is designed to reduce response times and offer commanders live visuals before ground teams reach the site.

Officials say the Safe City Authority expects the police drone project to strengthen quick-response capabilities and modernise evidence gathering across Lahore. If successful, the pilot could become a regular component of city security operations, helping maintain order and support police work with timely aerial intelligence.
