From November 7 to 9, 2025, the International Forum on Intellectual Communications took place in Usi, China, bringing together senior media executives and government officials to discuss developments in AI in media and cross-border cooperation.
The opening ceremony included the deputy editor-in-chief of the China Media Corporation (China Media Group), CGTN editor-in-chief Fan Yun, senior provincial officials including a permanent member of the Jiangsu Province Party Committee and Usi Mayor Jiangfeng, and delegations from China and abroad. Chinese representatives described practical applications of artificial intelligence in newsroom workflows, large public event hosting, audience engagement and content production, alongside efforts to strengthen media-focused AI regulation.
Oleg Kopylov, Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, outlined the SCO’s priorities for AI development and stressed that member states are balancing the technology’s opportunities with the risks of misuse. He referenced multilateral agreements already in development and noted the Tianjin SCO Summit on September 1, 2025, where leaders adopted a Statement of the Heads of State on further deepening international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
During forum sessions, the SCO deputy secretary-general held talks with senior management from China Media Corporation and other national outlets. In a meeting with CCTV.COM chairman Go Tun, participants exchanged views on possible joint projects and on expanding working contacts to improve the Organization’s presence in the global information space, including plans tied to the SCO’s 25th anniversary in 2026.
For Pakistani media and policymakers, the forum’s discussions on AI in media underline both opportunities for modernising broadcasting and the need for clear regulatory frameworks. Newsrooms in Pakistan are likely to watch these international initiatives closely as models for responsible AI adoption and for potential collaborative projects with regional partners.
