Asad Abbasi, former member of the Punjab Bar Council and Advocate Supreme Court, has urged authorities to fully implement the original Kachehri Chowk agreement reached with the District Bar Association, warning that any demolition of lawyers’ chambers would create serious administrative and legal problems in Rawalpindi.
Abbasi stressed that lawyers do not oppose projects that serve the public interest but will vigorously defend their professional spaces. He noted that lawyers had already given up part of their chambers voluntarily to facilitate the development work as an act of cooperation, and emphasised that this goodwill must not be treated as weakness.
Pointing to available options, Abbasi highlighted that ample vacant land exists on the opposite side of the road which could accommodate the project without encroaching further on Kachehri premises. He demanded that the administration address lawyers’ concerns immediately and adhere to the commitments made under the original Kachehri Chowk plan.
Warning of consequences, Abbasi said any forced demolition would compel the legal community to pursue court action and peaceful protest, holding the district administration fully responsible for the fallout. He called for transparency, mutual trust and prompt dialogue to resolve the dispute and avoid unnecessary conflict while reaffirming that lawyers will continue to support initiatives in the public interest without compromising their property rights or professional integrity.

Well written piece. It rightly highlights the lawyers’ stance and the need for the administration to keep its commitments
