AKU Backs Nursing Education Expansion in Sindh

Aga Khan University to support nursing education in Sindh, advising on curriculum and standards for a planned nursing school in Tando Muhammad Khan.

Senior Sindh government representatives met Aga Khan University leadership to discuss strengthening nursing education across the province and to seek institutional support for a proposed School of Nursing and Midwifery in Tando Muhammad Khan. The delegation from Sindh included Syed Qassim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Investment and Public–Private Partnership, and Dr Dabeer Khan. AKU attendees included President Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, Provost Dr Tania Bubela, Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery Dr Salimah Walani, and other university members.

The discussions explored practical steps to raise the quality, expand capacity and enhance professional standards for nursing education in Sindh. Participants considered ways Aga Khan University could advise on curriculum development, faculty support and clinical training to help align the new school with recognised academic and practice benchmarks. Emphasis was placed on collaborative planning to ensure the proposed School of Nursing and Midwifery addresses local workforce needs and delivers sustainable training pathways.

Government and AKU officials highlighted the importance of partnership between the public sector and reputable academic institutions to improve healthcare education in Sindh. The meeting set the stage for follow-up consultations to define technical support and timelines for the planned nursing school in Tando Muhammad Khan, with the aim of strengthening nursing education and professional capacity across the region.
