SCO UN cooperation advances after a Beijing meeting on 14 November 2025 as both sides agree to deepen practical collaboration and regular exchanges.

On 14 November 2025, a meeting took place at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing between SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and the UN Resident Coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee. The discussion was attended by heads and representatives of several specialized UN agencies operating in China and focused on enhancing joint work.

The Secretary-General emphasized that in recent years relations between the SCO and the UN have significantly strengthened, calling the partnership an example of effective cooperation between a universal global organisation and a regional organisation. The remarks highlighted the growing importance of SCO UN cooperation in addressing shared priorities through coordinated action.

During the meeting the parties exchanged views on opportunities to expand practical, results-oriented cooperation between the SCO, the UN and its specialised agencies. Special attention was given to outcomes achieved during the high-level week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York and to agreements reached following the SCO Secretary-General’s contacts with senior officials from UN institutions.

Both sides agreed to maintain regular exchanges of ideas and to continue close working cooperation. The renewed focus on SCO UN cooperation sets the stage for follow-up coordination among multilateral actors and will be watched closely by regional stakeholders, including observers in Pakistan.
