Prime Minister inaugurates Shalimar Express upgrade and Karachi Cantt station revamp with modern facilities, digitalization and improved passenger services.

Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the upgraded Shalimar Express and opened the renovated Karachi Cantt station, personally reviewing a range of passenger facilities introduced as part of the project. He examined the CIP lounge, the family waiting area and the newly installed information desk, while also observing the addition of escalators and a programme of extensive digitalization across railway operations.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the modern amenities and the improved quality of services being provided to travelers, noting that attention to passenger comfort is central to the upgrade. During his tour of the Shalimar Express he inspected the coaches, the dining car and the kitchen, highlighting the train’s refreshed interiors and the efforts to create a more comfortable travel environment.

Federal Railway Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi addressed guests at the ceremony and outlined ongoing reforms, completed projects and future targets for Pakistan Railways. He said these measures are designed to steer the network into a new modern era through both infrastructure improvements and service enhancements.

Officials described the work as a milestone for Pakistan Railways that will reinforce modern infrastructure, strengthen national connectivity and raise standards of public convenience. The focus on digitalization and upgraded passenger amenities is expected to improve everyday journeys on the Shalimar Express and across the railway network.
