The Literary & Debating Society (LDS) paid tribute to the vision, philosophy and literary brilliance of Allama Iqbal on November 11, 2025, in a gathering that brought together students and faculty to celebrate his lasting influence on Urdu thought and poetry.
Dr Mahmood ul Hassan Rana, Head of the Urdu Department at NUML, served as chief guest and delivered an insightful talk that highlighted Allama Iqbalโs contributions to Urdu literature and philosophical discourse, drawing attention to themes that continue to resonate with todayโs youth.
The programme included a Taht-ul-Lafz competition in which students recited selections of Iqbalโs poetry. Eman Esha from the Department of Chemistry won first place, Esha Mubashir from the Department of Business Administration secured second place, and Isha Aslam of the Department of Computer Science finished third, showcasing strong student engagement with classical Urdu verse.
Ms Sanila Aslam, focal person of LDS, delivered the welcome note and set the tone for the tribute, while Dr Raza Ullah, Head of the Sociology & Political Science Department, concluded the ceremony, praising the students for their performances and reaffirming the continued relevance of Allama Iqbal in academic and cultural discussions.
