The Health Services Academy inaugurated its One Health Secretariat in a ceremony led by Federal Minister of Health Syed Mustafa Kamal and Federal Minister of Education Wajeeha Qamar, a move that signals stronger national commitment to integrated health governance. The launch took place during the 15th International Public Health Conference held under the theme “The Next Generation’s Shield: A One Health Approach to Vaccination, Adolescent Resilience, and Climate Change.”
Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor of the Health Services Academy, opened the proceedings and set the tone for institutional collaboration. In his keynote, Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal outlined Pakistan’s vision for strengthening public health systems and accelerating One Health integration across sectors, while Federal Minister Wajeeha Qamar highlighted the essential role of intersectoral coordination between health, education and related ministries.
The newly established One Health Secretariat will work to institutionalize One Health coordination in Pakistan by creating formal links between human, animal and environmental health stakeholders. The Secretariat is expected to support vaccination strategies, enhance adolescent resilience initiatives and help address climate-related health risks as part of broader pandemic preparedness and global health security efforts.
The inauguration at the Health Services Academy underlines a renewed effort to operationalize One Health on a national level, bringing together government, academia and practitioners to align policies and programs. Officials said the Secretariat will focus on coordinated planning, data sharing and capacity building to translate the One Health agenda into practical public health outcomes.
