PM&DC Vows to Protect Students’ Future, Ensures Merit-Based and Transparent Reforms in Medical Education

The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding students’ academic futures, assuring that no decision will compromise their rights, merit, or opportunities. Responding to concerns raised during a recent parliamentary meeting, the Council stated that it fully understands the anxieties of students, parents, and stakeholders and is actively pursuing practical, long-term solutions.

PM&DC emphasized that examination standards across all medical and dental institutions will remain uniform, transparent, and fair. The Council said it is strengthening digitalization and standardization mechanisms to guarantee equal, merit-based opportunities for every student, regardless of their institution or schooling background.

Addressing the problem of vacant seats, the Council confirmed that it is working with universities and the Law Division on a legally sound plan to prevent seat wastage and ensure timely placement of eligible candidates. PM&DC described this as a priority reform aimed at maximizing admissions and ensuring that deserving students are not deprived of available opportunities.

The Council also highlighted its coordination with IBCC to maintain fairness between Cambridge-system and local board students. It stressed that all foreign-system students must receive equitable grade conversions and academic facilitation and that the Council views this responsibility with utmost seriousness.

Declaring students as an integral part of the country’s medical education system, PM&DC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting their academic interests at every forum. It stated that all decisions continue to be guided by merit, transparency, and national standards.

Reiterating its role as a professional and student-centered regulator, PM&DC said it will keep strengthening Pakistan’s medical and dental education framework to meet international benchmarks. The Council assured students that they will receive full support and that their future will remain protected without compromise.
