IPC Training strengthens infection prevention at Lahore teaching hospitals, enhancing patient safety and IPC skills across high-risk clinical areas.

The collaborative IPC strengthening initiative led by the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department Punjab and the National Institute of Health Islamabad advanced this week with successful training activities across Lahore’s major teaching hospitals.

Last week five-day IPC cascade trainings were completed at the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS) Lahore and the Government Teaching Hospital Shahdara Lahore. These sessions focused on practical measures to reduce healthcare-associated infections and improve ward-level practices in high-risk clinical areas.

Led by provincial IPC master trainers, the IPC Training reinforced standard precautions and transmission-based measures while enhancing staff competency in patient safety protocols. Trainers worked closely with clinical teams to translate guidelines into day-to-day practice, prioritising interventions that protect both patients and healthcare workers.

Officials expressed deep appreciation to the Provincial IPC Focal Person for her leadership and to the Provincial IPC Coordinator for ensuring smooth organisation and follow-through. The success of the trainings also reflected strong support from Medical Superintendents and hospital administrations who facilitated access to high-risk units and encouraged staff participation.

The master trainers and participants demonstrated commitment to elevating IPC standards across Lahore, with practical improvements expected to strengthen infection prevention outcomes in the coming months. Continued collaboration between the provincial SHC&ME Department and NIH Islamabad remains central to sustaining these gains and expanding IPC Training across the region.
