IOM, UNHCR and UNFPA Pakistan led a workshop on Technology-Facilitated GBV advancing safer online and offline spaces for women and girls.

IOM, UNHCR Pakistan and UNFPA Pakistan convened a one-day workshop in Islamabad focused on Technology-Facilitated GBV and aligned with the UNiTE to End GBV against All Women and Girls campaign. The session brought together government officials, UN agencies and service providers to examine how technology can both increase risks to women and girls and serve as a tool for protection.

Participants discussed practical ways to identify and respond to online harm, explored the impact of Technology-Facilitated GBV on mental health, and highlighted the everyday challenges survivors face when abuse moves between digital and physical spaces. The workshop emphasised survivor-centred approaches and the need for mental health and psychosocial support alongside legal and digital safety measures.

Speakers underscored the importance of disability inclusion in GBV programming, noting that women and girls with disabilities often encounter heightened vulnerability online and limited access to tailored support services. Attendees reviewed how inclusive design, accessible reporting mechanisms and targeted outreach can strengthen protection for diverse groups.

Representatives from the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives and the National Commission on the Status of Women reaffirmed government commitment to concrete actions addressing GBV and Technology-Facilitated GBV. They signalled plans to coordinate across agencies to make both online and offline spaces safer and more inclusive for women and girls across Pakistan.

The workshop fostered dialogue on policy, programming and partnerships needed to prevent abuse and improve support for survivors, reflecting a shared pledge by UN agencies and government partners to keep advancing measures that protect women and girls from Technology-Facilitated GBV.
