Russia Pakistan cooperation strengthened with NDMA visit

Russia Pakistan cooperation deepened as Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev met NDMA leadership, shared emergency response experience and planted trees in Islamabad.

A Russian delegation led by Sergei Tsivilev, Energy Minister, visited the National Disaster Management Authority in Islamabad during the 10th meeting of the Russia-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission, underscoring growing Russia Pakistan cooperation on disaster management.

Minister Tsivilev held talks with NDMA Chairman LtGen Inam Haider Malik to discuss practical exchanges in emergency response. Representatives from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations who took part in rescue operations after the April 8, 2005 earthquake attended, allowing survivors and eyewitnesses to meet those who once assisted them.

Eyewitnesses were invited to share their gratitude in person, producing an emotional moment that highlighted the lasting human impact of past joint rescue efforts and reinforced the value of continued collaboration.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Tsivilev said Russia stands ready to share its experience in emergency response and training, stressing that a shared commitment to the value of human life unites nations and strengthens Russia Pakistan cooperation.

At the close of the visit the Russian delegation planted several trees on NDMA grounds as a symbolic gesture of friendship, linking recovery, resilience and environmental stewardship in Pakistan.

Officials noted that the exchange of experience and the personal meetings between rescuers and survivors signal practical steps toward deeper cooperation in disaster preparedness and response between the two countries.
