Advocate Qurat-ul-Ain, Incharge RDC Karachi, recently visited the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Karachi and held discussions with Prof. Dr. Shagufta Ishtiyaque, the department chairperson. The meeting brought together academic leadership and community advocates to explore collaborative opportunities that support students and local communities in Karachi.
The two sides reviewed SHARP’s mandate and ongoing programmes, with particular attention to expanding the organisation’s focus on climate resilience and community awareness. Plans at the meeting highlighted a range of initiatives aimed at integrating academic expertise with practical awareness campaigns, reinforcing the role of universities in addressing environmental challenges faced by urban communities.
During the visit Advocate Qurat-ul-Ain engaged directly with female students from the chemical engineering department and introduced SHARP’s Youth Awareness Sessions on empowerment, safety, and academic development. These sessions are part of a broader push to elevate SHARP youth participation in civic life and to provide young women with tools for personal security and professional growth.
The interaction underscored SHARP’s commitment to strengthening academic linkages and youth-focused initiatives across Karachi. Both parties outlined next steps toward joint awareness activities, youth-led environmental initiatives and deeper academic collaboration, aiming to build a more informed and climate-resilient society through sustained engagement with students and faculty.
