Elections were held today in Pakistan for the Chair of the Oversight Committee that oversees Global Fund grants, and Dr Shahzad Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor of the Health Services Academy, secured the position with a large majority. He will serve as Chair of the Oversight Committee for the next two years.
The Oversight Committee monitors Global Fund grants in the country, tracking implementation to ensure investments aimed at HIV, TB and malaria achieve their intended reach and impact. Its independent review role is central to maintaining transparency and public trust in grant execution.
As Chair, Dr Khan will lead the Oversight Committee in continuously monitoring program performance, financial management, procurement and risk areas, identifying bottlenecks or compliance issues and recommending timely corrective actions. The committee’s work is intended to make sure funds translate into measurable health outcomes rather than slipping into inefficiency or misuse.
By independently reviewing data, engaging with implementers and tracking follow-up actions, the Oversight Committee protects accountability, strengthens national health systems and helps ensure Global Fund investments deliver the results they were meant to achieve for the people of Pakistan.
