An awareness walk at UMT Lahore brought together students, faculty and senior management to reaffirm a commitment to safer campuses and to elevate Harassment Awareness across academic institutions. The event captured the spirit of the #HumBadleingeSoch campaign as participants pledged solidarity against harassment and a collective responsibility to change harmful norms.
The Honorable Federal Ombudsperson delivered a keynote stressing the urgency of protecting fundamental rights and reinforcing institutional safeguards. Senior leadership stood alongside the campus community, with Dr. Asif Raza (Rector) and Dr. Naida Anwar (Chairperson, Anti-Harassment Committee) highlighting that progress on Harassment Awareness requires clear policies, training and accountability at every level.
More than 130 attendees took part in the seminar where a dedicated campus booth provided students with practical guidance on their legal rights and reporting options. The engagement underscored the role of on-campus resources in translating Harassment Awareness into accessible support for survivors and witnesses.
Assistant Law Officer Muhammad Shazib Iqbal outlined key provisions of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010 and led a dynamic question and answer session. His explanations helped bridge the gap between statutory protections and everyday experiences, making legal remedies and institutional obligations clearer for participants.
The programme at UMT Lahore reinforced that improving Harassment Awareness is an ongoing process that depends on informed students, committed leadership and transparent mechanisms. By combining legal guidance, open dialogue and visible institutional support, the university aims to set a stronger example for other Pakistani campuses seeking to protect rights and ensure safe learning environments.
