Chairman Senate Gilani met Malaysia's Speaker to boost parliamentary cooperation and investment, underscoring Gilani Malaysia ties and regional stability.

On 8 December 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani met with Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, in a discussion aimed at deepening parliamentary and bilateral cooperation.

The meeting, held in an atmosphere of mutual warmth, reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Malaysia. Chairman Gilani conveyed appreciation for sustained parliamentary engagement and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhance cooperation across political, economic and legislative spheres.

Both leaders welcomed the establishment and expansion of Parliamentary Friendship Groups as platforms for sustained exchanges. The conversation highlighted the importance of high-level parliamentary visits and continued dialogue in strengthening ties, noting recent interactions including the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Malaysia and last year’s visit of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Pakistan.

Chairman Gilani acknowledged Malaysia’s generous assistance during Pakistan’s flood relief operations and praised Malaysia’s principled advocacy for the rights of the Palestinian people. He also highlighted growing economic links, citing the Pakistan Malaysia Business and Investment Conference in Kuala Lumpur on 6 October and Pakistan’s new incentives under Special Economic Zones and the Special Investment Facilitation Council as measures to attract further Malaysian investment. Pakistan also offered to support Malaysia’s skilled workforce needs, noting the strong reputation of Pakistani workers.

Regional security matters formed a key part of the dialogue. Chairman Gilani stressed Pakistan’s concern over terrorist outfits such as TTP/FAK and BLA/FAH operating from Afghan soil and urged effective, verifiable action by Afghan authorities as a condition for normal relations. He also praised Malaysia’s leadership as ASEAN Chair and welcomed Malaysian support for Pakistan’s aspiration to secure Full Dialogue Partnership with ASEAN.

On broader regional tensions, Chairman Gilani expressed grave concern over escalating aggressive rhetoric and actions by India, drawing attention to the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and India’s unilateral move to place the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance. Referring to the unprovoked aggression of 6–7 May 2025, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, exercised through Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos, while emphasising Pakistan’s preference for dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

The Gilani Malaysia meeting underlined a shared commitment to promote peace, stability and economic development in the region, and both sides agreed to continue parliamentary exchanges and high-level cooperation to translate these shared goals into concrete outcomes.
