Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate shocks, and building durable climate resilience requires sustained and strategic investment across vulnerable regions. Recognising this need, ongoing initiatives are focusing on preparedness and community-level coping capacity to reduce the human and economic toll of extreme events.
IOM Pakistan, supported by funding from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, is working with communities in the southern provinces to strengthen their ability to anticipate and respond to floods, heat and other climate-related hazards. The programme emphasises locally led action to improve readiness and protect livelihoods in areas that face repeated climate stress.
At the Green Compact launch in Islamabad, representatives briefed Baroness Jenny Chapman, the UK Minister for International Development and Africa, on the on-the-ground impact of the partnership. The meeting highlighted the importance of targeted support and sustained funding to expand resilience efforts for those most at risk in Pakistan’s south.
Sustained collaboration between international partners and local stakeholders is critical to scale climate resilience across the country and ensure communities are better prepared for future climate shocks.
