Federal minister inspects Shakarparian trees work, orders public hearings and scientific oversight, and mandates three native trees planted for every one removed.

Federal Minister for MOCC&EC Dr. Musadik Malik visited Shakarparian, part of the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP), to review the cutting of paper mulberry trees and the planting of native species. The visit focused on Shakarparian trees removal and replanting efforts aimed at restoring the area’s ecological balance.

Dr. Malik said the work is being carried out on scientific grounds and emphasised that public hearings are essential before major interventions proceed. He made clear that any negligence in the operation will face action, signalling strict oversight of the project to ensure both compliance and transparency.

The federal government reiterated its commitment to protecting Islamabad’s greenery, declaring that three new trees will be planted for every one removed. Officials said the emphasis will remain on native trees to strengthen local habitats and deliver long-term environmental benefits for communities around Shakarparian.
