The Pakistan Dairy Association welcomed the Punjab Food Authority’s Safe Milk Campaign and praised its leadership for strengthening milk safety across the province. PDA Chief Executive Dr. Shehzad Amin commended Muhammad Asim Javaid, Director PFA, and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for providing critical momentum to dairy formalization and food safety reforms.
Under the campaign, authorities tested more than 70,000 litres of milk entering Lahore, resulting in the disposal of 8,000 litres found to be adulterated. Inspections in Muzaffargarh removed over 2,000 litres of substandard milk, while Rawalpindi checkpoint operations eliminated 3,500 litres deemed unsafe. A large-scale drive in Lahore inspected 60 vehicles and led to the destruction of 35,000 litres of adulterated milk.
PDA said these enforcement actions demonstrate the Punjab Food Authority’s commitment to milk safety and consumer protection, steps that will help reduce malnutrition and safeguard the health of future generations. The association emphasized that formalizing the dairy sector and strengthening regulatory enforcement are essential to ensure safe, nutritious and affordable milk reaches households across Pakistan.
The PDA also applauded the Government of Punjab for expanding the Chief Minister School Nutrition Program to 11 districts, calling it a landmark intervention to tackle child malnutrition and improve learning outcomes. Providing safe, nutritious milk to schoolchildren was described as a transformative investment in physical growth, cognitive development and long-term productivity.
Reaffirming its commitment, PDA said it will continue to support initiatives that drive dairy formalization and improve milk safety nationwide. Formalization is not a choice, it is a necessity, Dr. Amin stated, adding that the association stands shoulder to shoulder with the Punjab Food Authority in this mission.
