The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan hosted a formal dinner in Karachi for presidents of Royal Colleges and postgraduate medical education leaders from 26 countries attending CPSP’s International Conference on Medical Education, with Prof. Rashid Latif attending as Guest of Honor.
Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, offered thanks to the visiting delegates on behalf of Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and himself, underscoring the importance of their exchanges with Pakistan’s medical education community.
The senator praised CPSP for establishing strong regional benchmarks in postgraduate training and urged that these global best practices be adopted and adapted locally. He stressed that practical implementation of international standards through CPSP would directly benefit patients and strengthen clinical competence nationwide.
During the evening Senator Chishti engaged with presidents and senior representatives from the Royal Colleges of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Canada, Thailand and South Africa, as well as the president of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, acknowledging their role in advancing global medical education.
Prof. Andrew Elder expressed gratitude on behalf of the international guests and commended CPSP for maintaining world-class standards in higher medical education, highlighting the college’s leadership role in the region.
Reiterating his personal commitment to CPSP’s mission, Senator Chishti pledged continued support for initiatives that promote excellence in postgraduate medical education and enhance healthcare delivery across Pakistan, noting that collaboration forged at the conference can be translated into tangible improvements for the country’s health system.
