The Governing Council of the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur met for its eighth session at the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Wednesday, chaired by Secretary Religious Affairs Dr Sajid Mahmood Chauhan. Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora attended the meeting in his capacity as Pardhan of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
Representatives from the ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Defence, Law and Justice and Information and Broadcasting participated, alongside officials from the Planning Commission, the Frontier Works Organisation and the Punjab Home Department.
Dr Chauhan described the Kartarpur Corridor as a symbol of humanitarian values and interfaith harmony and reiterated the government’s commitment to providing the best possible facilities for visiting Sikh yatrees and devotees. Mr Arora acknowledged coordinated efforts by both the federal and Punjab governments to extend warm hospitality and seamless services to pilgrims.
The council reviewed repair and rehabilitation work required after recent flooding, which the session attributed to Indian water aggression, and decided that damaged portions of the corridor would be restored on an urgent basis. To accelerate the rehabilitation, the council resolved to reconvene within two weeks to assess progress and ensure timely completion of the works.
Officials stressed close monitoring and coordination among federal and provincial agencies to expedite restoration and maintain services for yatrees while repair efforts are under way.
