Islamabad: The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council has announced significant relief for postgraduate medical and dental students and degree holders who were admitted before January 16, 2023 following its Council meeting on January 7, 2026. The council decided that all cases of candidates admitted or who completed their postgraduate qualifications up to January 16, 2023 will be registered by PM&DC after the award of their degree, easing registration concerns for many practitioners across Pakistan.
Under the revised approach, candidates admitted after January 16, 2023 will face stricter requirements: the degree-awarding institution must be recognized by PM&DC and the training centre must be accredited under Section 25 of the PM&DC Act 2022. This distinction aims to align future registrations with the updated regulatory framework while providing relief to those trained under the previous timelines.
The PMDC relief applies to a wide range of postgraduate credentials including MS, MD, MDS, MPhil, PhD, FCPS, MCPS and various diploma programmes obtained from Pakistani universities and institutions as well as the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. Eligible candidates have been advised to complete registration in accordance with prescribed rules and procedures to ensure their qualifications are formally recorded by the council.
