Embassy marks Algeria Victory Day in Islamabad with prayers, memorials and renewed calls to deepen Algeria Pakistan ties while honoring the martyrs.

The Embassy of Algeria in Islamabad marked the 64th anniversary of Victory Day on March 19, 1962-2026 under the slogan Eternal Glories and Renewed Victories, bringing together embassy staff and members of the Algerian community in the capital.

Ambassador Dr. Brahim Romani presided over the gathering, which included a memorial to the martyrs, prayers and a Quran recitation. The solemn programme reflected the central place of remembrance in Algeria Victory Day observances and provided a moment for the community in Islamabad to pay tribute.

In his remarks the ambassador highlighted the significance of the 19 March 1962 ceasefire reached under the Evian Accords, a decisive step that paved the way for Algeria’s independence on July 5, 1962. He paid homage to the sacrifices of the Algerian people and the National Liberation Front, recalling the heavy human cost and the estimated 1.5 million martyrs whose memory defines the Algeria Victory Day narrative.

The address also noted Algeria’s progress since independence and its enduring support for liberation movements worldwide. Ambassador Romani underlined the historical bonds between Algeria and Pakistan and reiterated a renewed commitment to strengthen Algeria Pakistan relations through cooperation and mutual respect.

Traditional elements of the commemoration included the raising of the national flag, moments of silence and recitation of Al-Fatiha for the chouhada. The 2026 observance emphasized national unity, the legacy of the revolution and sustained efforts toward economic development and the protection of sovereignty, themes that resonated with attendees in Islamabad.

The embassy event closed with a pledge to honour the legacy of independence and to pursue closer ties with Pakistan as a way to keep the spirit of Algeria Victory Day alive among Algerians living abroad and friends of Algeria in Pakistan.
