Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi Sub-Campus Attock held a large tree plantation campaign on May 1, 2026, bringing together university officials, district administration, environmental authorities, faculty, students and representatives from local departments and schools to expand green cover and raise climate awareness.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman highlighted that tree plantation is one of the most effective and practical measures to combat climate change, reduce pollution and improve air quality. He urged educational institutions to lead by example in promoting conservation and engaging youth in meaningful environmental action.
Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza underlined the urgency of expanding urban greenery in the face of rising temperatures and development pressures, and called on every citizen to plant and protect trees to make Pakistan greener and cleaner. He stressed the importance of partnerships between universities and public departments for sustained impact.
The event paid tribute to the country’s labour force on Labour Day, recognising workers’ contributions to national development and linking the spirit of service to the responsibility of protecting natural resources. Organisers noted that the combined message of Labour Day and tree plantation emphasised productivity, responsibility and long-term wellbeing.
Faculty members, students, administrative staff and guest participants worked together throughout the day, planting saplings and recording locations for future care. The Sub-Campus concluded the campaign with a collective pledge to continue tree plantation activities and to integrate environmentally responsible practices into campus life and community outreach.
The tree plantation drive at Attock reflects PMAS AAUR’s ongoing commitment to climate resilience, environmental stewardship and community engagement through research, education and outreach aimed at sustainable development.
