María Fernanda Espinosa calls on Ishaq Dar in Islamabad.

H.E. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa, former Foreign Minister of Ecuador and a candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary General, called on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Thursday.

Welcoming Ms. Espinosa, DPM/FM Ishaq Dar expressed Pakistan’s full support for strengthening multilateralism and ensuring the central role of the United Nations in global affairs.

He said Pakistan hoped the incoming Secretary General would carry out much needed reforms in the United Nations and ensure the implementation of longstanding UNSC resolutions, especially on Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, which remain crucial for lasting peace in the Middle East and South Asia.

DPM/FM Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue working for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, respect for international law and treaties, and active international cooperation for global peace and prosperity.
