The sixth round of bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and Pakistan was held in Islamabad, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Islamabad said.
The Bulgarian delegation was led by Ambassador Petko Doykov, Director General for Bilateral Relations, while the Pakistani delegation was headed by Ambassador Ayesha Ali, Additional Secretary (Europe).
During the consultations, both sides underlined the long standing ties of traditional friendship between Bulgaria and Pakistan and reviewed their bilateral relations in detail. They identified priorities and initiatives for strengthening political and parliamentary dialogue, along with cooperation in trade, economy, education, culture, information and communication technologies, defense, tourism and people to-people contacts.
Special attention was given to cooperation between the two countries in international organizations, particularly mutual support for candidatures. The delegations also discussed relations between the European Union and Pakistan, with a focus on the EU’s GSP+ preferential trade scheme, and exchanged views on current regional and international issues.
It was agreed that the seventh round of bilateral political consultations will be held in Sofia at a mutually convenient time.
As part of his two day visit to Islamabad, Ambassador Petko Doykov was also received by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch. He additionally held meetings with Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, the Secretary of Economic Affairs Division, and the conveners of the Bulgaria Friendship Groups in the Senate and the National Assembly of Pakistan.
During these meetings, both sides discussed bilateral cooperation as well as current regional and international developments.
