The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea by the Ministry of Interior Employees Cooperative Housing Society against a judgment that ruled it had encroached on land allocated for a state-owned college.

A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, upheld the decision of the Islamabad High Court and rejected the cooperative housing society’s appeal. Justice Athar Minallah expressed his displeasure over the use of the name of a government department by a private housing society during the proceedings.

The Capital Development Authority ordered cooperative housing societies last year three-week window to modify their names or risk stern action if they continued to use names of ministries or government agencies.
