ISLAMABAD: The Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) marked World Chess Day by reaffirming its commitment to promoting chess across the country and nurturing Pakistan’s next generation of champions.
CFP President Syed Zeeshan Naqvi graced the ceremony as the chief guest. CFP Vice President Rehan Azam, federation officials, players and chess enthusiasts also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Naqvi said the federation was taking practical and long-term steps to expand and strengthen chess at the grassroots and national levels. He said the record participation in the recently concluded National Chess Championship reflected the growing popularity of the game and would provide a major boost to chess in Pakistan.
He added that increasing interest among young players would create greater opportunities for emerging talent to compete and excel at both national and international levels.
Naqvi reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to organising more tournaments, training programmes and development initiatives to nurture future champions and raise Pakistan’s profile in the global chess community.
The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting to commemorate World Chess Day, with participants expressing their resolve to work collectively for the continued growth and success of chess in Pakistan.
