Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Niaz Ahmad Akhtar held a meeting with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Senator Ahad Cheema to review the IT Skills Assessment Test and the accreditation framework for computing education.
The meeting reviewed the participation and performance of more than 33,000 students from 188 institutions. Discussions covered measures to strengthen assessment quality, analyse institutional performance, and align academic qualifications with practical competencies.
Senator Ahad Cheema emphasised the need to strengthen accreditation mechanisms, protect students from unrecognised programmes, improve public awareness of accreditation status, and ensure stronger coordination among HEC, the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), the Ministry of IT, and provincial authorities.
The meeting also focused on aligning curricula, competency assessments, and professional certifications with industry requirements through stronger academia-industry collaboration, including engagement with stakeholders.
The HEC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to quality assurance, credible and transparent assessment, regulatory compliance, and strengthening the employability and international competitiveness of Pakistani IT graduates.
