LAHORE: A delegation of the Traffic Education Unit of City Traffic Police Lahore called on Honorary Consul General of Japan Syed Nadeem Alam Shah in a cordial meeting, where matters relating to road safety, observance of traffic laws, responsible driving and public awareness were discussed.
The delegation comprised Education Programme Incharge Fahmida Zeeshan, Education Officer Faisal Mehmood and Education Officer Mohsin Abbas.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the importance of traffic laws, principles of safe driving and the need for effective awareness programmes to encourage citizens to observe traffic discipline.
It was emphasised that creating public awareness about road safety and highlighting the importance of traffic laws were essential for preventing accidents and protecting precious human lives. The promotion of traffic awareness in educational institutions, public places and among different segments of society was also termed important for building a safer society.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Nadeem Alam Shah said public awareness regarding road safety and traffic laws was the need of the hour. He said implementation of traffic laws not only helped prevent accidents but also played an important role in protecting precious lives and promoting discipline in society.
He said that for establishing a safe traffic system, it was imperative to create awareness among the public about responsible driving, use of helmets and seat belts, lane discipline and observance of traffic signals. He appreciated the awareness activities of the Traffic Education Unit of City Traffic Police Lahore in this regard.
Syed Nadeem Alam Shah expressed the hope that awareness programmes for the promotion of road safety and highlighting the importance of traffic laws would be made more effective so that law-abiding and responsible attitudes could be promoted among citizens and accidents reduced.
He said safe roads and responsible citizens were the identity of a civilised and organised society.
