Federal Ombudsperson Visits Multan’s Dedicated Violence Against Women Center to Strengthen Justice System
Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment, Ms. Fauzia Viqar, visited the Violence Against Women Center (VAWC) in Multan, a dedicated facility operating around the clock to provide comprehensive support services aimed at eliminating violence against women. Established under the Punjab Protection of Violence Against Women (Amended) Act 2022, the center integrates medical aid, police assistance, FIR registration, prosecution, rehabilitation, and forensic services, exclusively administered and managed by women professionals.
Ms. Viqar met with key officials, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Ms. Kainat Azhar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ms. Bareera Bullo, and Station House Officer (SHO) Ms. Iram Haneef. The meeting provided her with detailed insights into the operational strategies and procedures in place for effectively addressing incidents involving violence against women.
During her visit, Ms. Viqar thoroughly reviewed the established response mechanisms for victim support and case management. Senior police officials briefed her on various challenges and successes concerning the timely handling of cases, investigative procedures, and support mechanisms available to survivors within the integrated framework provided by the center.
Additionally, Ms. Viqar toured the Women Police Station located within the premises, which serves as a significant step toward ensuring safety, support, and accountability for women throughout South Punjab. The dedicated police station plays a pivotal role in providing specialized police services developed specifically for women survivors, ensuring their legal rights and safety are prioritized efficiently and sensitively.
The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both the Federal Ombudsperson Office and the Violence Against Women Center Multan to collaboratively strengthen justice and accountability, empowering women facing violence by providing them with quality, prompt, and holistic support services.
