**Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Chief Condemns Fuel Price Hike, Warns of Inflation Crisis**
Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab, Dr. Tariq Saleem, has strongly denounced the recent increase in petroleum prices, describing the move as an “economic assault” on the country’s inflation-hit citizens. Speaking at a training workshop for Jamaat-e-Islami Sargodha officials in Murree, Dr. Saleem warned that the relentless rise in fuel and electricity costs is crippling Pakistan’s economy and driving ordinary people towards mounting despair.
Dr. Saleem sharply criticized the ruling coalition, accusing it of betraying the trust of the public. He recalled that ahead of the general elections, the government had promised free electricity and affordable petrol for all Pakistanis. Despite holding office for more than a year and a half, he noted, these pledges have yet to be fulfilled.
“Instead of offering relief, the authorities have imposed additional taxes and levies,” Dr. Saleem stated. He cautioned that the latest hike in petroleum prices would set off a fresh wave of inflation, further eroding the purchasing power of workers and the poor, and making daily life increasingly untenable for millions.
Underscoring his party’s expanding engagement with the public, Dr. Saleem announced that Jamaat-e-Islami has recruited 2.2 million new members through a recent nationwide membership drive. He added that the party is forming public committees at various administrative levels, including block code, union council, and constituency-based units, to foster community empowerment and strengthen grassroots activism.
Dr. Saleem called for meaningful change through mass mobilization rather than empty promises, emphasizing the need for organized public power to spark a genuine revolution across all segments of society. He reaffirmed Jamaat-e-Islami’s resolve to hold the government accountable and support citizens amid prevailing economic challenges.
