Romanian Foreign Minister Reaffirms Robust Support for Moldova’s EU Integration During Chișinău Visit
Romania has reiterated its strong and unwavering support for Moldova’s aspirations to join the European Union, as Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu concluded a high-level diplomatic visit to Chișinău. The visit featured meetings with Moldova’s top leadership and reinforced the enduring partnership and shared priorities between the two neighboring countries.
During her trip, Minister Țoiu was received by Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Parliament President Igor Grosu, and Prime Minister Dorin Recean, highlighting the significance Romania places on its relationship with Moldova. In a series of discussions, the Romanian official expressed her country’s steadfast commitment, echoing the positions of Romanian President Nicolae Ciucă, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, and the entire Romanian government to supporting Moldova’s pathway toward EU integration.
Minister Țoiu’s agenda included extensive talks with her Moldovan counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi. Both leaders delivered joint press statements, outlining mutual commitments in advancing Moldova–Romania relations. Key topics included Moldova’s EU accession process, as well as progress in bilateral projects spanning energy, cross-border infrastructure, culture, and the promotion of the shared Romanian language.
A central focus of the meetings was accelerating strategic infrastructure projects such as the Suceava–Bălți and Vulcănești–Chișinău energy interconnections. These initiatives are intended to bolster Moldova’s energy independence and resilience, further strengthening the economic and social ties between the two nations.
Minister Țoiu also met with representatives of Romanian businesses operating in Moldova, underscoring her country’s support for increasing economic collaboration and entrepreneurial activity across the border. The interactions highlighted the positive impact of Romanian investments, which are benefiting citizens and companies in both countries.
Regional security amid ongoing geopolitical tensions was another important theme throughout the visit. Both Romanian and Moldovan officials underscored the need for coordinated efforts to counter hybrid threats and ensure regional stability, as Moldova continues on its path toward greater European integration.
Overall, the visit reaffirmed the deep-rooted connection between Romania and Moldova—shaped by shared history, language, and cultural heritage—and marked another significant step in deepening their strategic partnership as Moldova progresses toward EU membership.
